Caught and Cornered, but Will They Change?
If you'd rather listen to the podcast than read the blog, click here for The Parents' Solution. The podcast drops January 10, 2023! An interesting article was published on The Gateway Pundit. The article is entitled Private NYC School Director Who Bragged About ‘Sneaking’ Left-Wing Political Agenda Into Classrooms Placed on Leave After Project Veritas Exposé. It dives into recordings that were taken of a director at a private school and an assistant principal at an elementary school who admitted to discriminating against people with opposing beliefs.
A word of caution before unpacking this article: it is always important to test the credibility of news sites. We know that it tends to be dramatic news that sells; gross exaggeration and misrepresentation of the truth is clearly evident and becoming common in today's media.
That being said, the basic disregard of human rights and open prejudice displayed in this article is worth noting and talking about. If there is no outcry against these displays of discrimination, then they will only continue and worsen.

Jennifer Norris, the Director of Student Activities at Trinity School NYC was caught on tape saying that she does not allow Republican opinion on her campus. She also mentioned the following:
"Unfortunately, it’s the white boys who feel very entitled to express their opposite opinions and just push back. There’s a huge contingent of them that are just horrible. And you’re like, ‘Are you always going to be horrible, or are you just going to be horrible right now?’ I don’t know…I think they need to go. I think they’re really awful people…They’re so protected by capitalism. It makes me sad."
The most glaring statement here is the part where Norris says, "they need to go." Just what exactly does she mean by that? Need to leave the campus or need to no longer exist. Why does she think that she can now discriminate against students because of their colour and sex? And how exactly is capitalism protecting white males? Does this mean that the solution is communism or some other sort of social extreme? Certainly, right? Because I'm sure that communism will protect women.
It's mind-blowing to think that this woman is a director in a private school, a school that parents are paying a lot of money to send their children to, believing that they will be receiving a good education.
Of course, it made sense that the school responded to the publishing of her statements on the news by placing Jennifer Norris on paid leave while an investigation was conducted. However, the school started off their correspondent letter to parents by stating that the recordings of Norris were made without her knowledge by someone who misrepresented themselves (the undercover reporter). The letter ends with stating that "our community stands for and strives to live up to higher ideals - love, respect, and inclusion."
Herein is the pathetic irony, that inclusion means including everyone. However, we can clearly see that to this teacher and perhaps many others, inclusion means welcoming one group and steadfastly excluding another.
You have to wonder: would Norris have been placed on paid leave or fired immediately if she had said the same thing about African-American female students? Or what about Hispanic males? And should we really believe that the school had no clue about her prejudiced ideologies? She clearly stated them freely, in what she thought was leisurely conversation.

The article tells a second account of an assistant principal at Cos Cob Elementary School named Jeremy Boland. Mr. Boland admitted that he chooses not to hire Catholics at his school. He said that he prefers to hire progressive teachers under the age of 30.
Here we have discrimination against age and religion, distinctly because Boland is trying to create a school only conducive to idealists on the left. Again, you have to ask yourself, how did Cos Cob Elementary School not know about Boland's prejudice? He was not just one of the teachers. He was an assistant principal who clearly had power in the hiring process.
Would his punishment have been the same if he said that he does not hire women, or Muslims?

As an update: Norris has been released from her position at Trinity School NYC. It is unclear what the final decision has been with Boland at Cos Cob Elementary School. In both situations the school board has claimed that it does not support discrimination in any form. These seem like high ideals to cling to, especially when one of your own is caught breaking them.
For someone with such obvious prejudice to abide in these institutions, logically there must have been sympathy within the system for their beliefs. Now that these ideals have been caught and cornered, will there be a change in the system? Or will schools use these teachers as scapegoats, while they continue with their secret agendas?
