Change From The Top Down - A Conversation With Melissa Lowry

Melissa Lowry, a principal of a Catholic school who runs her own educational consulting company, sat down to chat with me about how her school handles the involvement of parents, the curriculum her school works with, and how the collaborative efforts of teachers work so well...even when everyone doesn't agree.
The two of us also talked about the differences between public and Catholic schools, from an administrative and educational perspective, and commiserated over the different learning styles we've seen over the years.
Melissa emphasized that her school was fortunate in that they have been able to create and maintain close relationships with the parents of their students, and that there was, definitely, no I in team. She talked about how, as educators, we are to be positive role models for their students, and how they incorporated that even into their curriculum planning. It was such a refreshing conversation to have - an educator with a passion and a care for students and teachers alike, who stood by parents and her team for the betterment of everyone.
