Skills For Connection: A How-To Guide
This week, on The Parents' Solution, I chatted with Miriam, an SLP, Social Worker, teacher and parent. Miriam supports adults, in various ways, with their social emotional development. The two of us had a lot to talk about! Our conversation focused mainly around various functional concrete skills that are lacking in society, and particularly those that are evident within the classroom and the home.
Miriam is an experienced speech therapist, who saw language and social-emotional structural problems within her own educational sphere, and made the connection between these issues and those that have become evident in adults of today's society. She took her experience as a speech therapist, working with children, and branched out into helping a wider variety of individuals, bringing concrete solutions to challenges that we all face - one of her most simple solutions is to understand the self vs. the other, and the importance of perspective in communication.
Miriam's approach to the social-emotional construct that we as humans base our perspectives of the world off of, is a fresh (and functional) look at an age-old problem.
